Lisbon

Lisbon (or Lisboa in Portuguese) is the capital of Portugal and largest city in the Country. Its a fascinating city, with centuries of history, traditions and charming architecture that mixes the old and the new.

Lisbon, set on seven hills near the Tagus River (Tejo in Portuguese), is one of the smallest European Capitals, but, definetly, one of most enjoyable ones with half the fuss of other capitals, a relaxed atmosphere, cultural diversity, and reasonable prices.

The nearby river invites you to walk, and this is probably the best way to discover the narrow streets of Alfama, Castelo and Mouraria, the Cafés and Boutiques in Chiado, the Castle, the churches and monasteries and the museums, the small details in the tiles, the stone pavings, the belvederes and the typical gardens.

If you're feeling tired just stop in an "esplanada" for a "Bica" and a "Pastel de Nata" (Expresso and a custard tart) to regain your strenght and then get on the bus, subway, tram or funicular. They will help you to conquer the steeper hills or to reach the modern part of the city, the Parque das Nações.

Either way, Lisbon is a permanent discovery and this guide will be your best help to take the most out of your visit.
